Anyone
can post a fishing report, even if you're not a
Nebraska B.A.S.S. member. Hopefully, we'll get a
lot of help with making this the place
to go to see how the fish are biting in Nebraska
and the surrounding states as well. Feel free to
fill out the form below with as much information
as you want to share. This website is for the Nebraska
B.A.S.S. Federation, but reports from nearby states and any other species of fish are
always welcome. Thanks!
Anglers can rate the quality of
the lake's fishing between 0 to 5 stars:

Excellent |
     Good |

April 20th, 2008 - Derek Baze, Kansas City, KS - Nemaha Valley
Bassmasters Club
tournament with eight anglers caught at least 25 bass over 15"
and a lot under 15". Very few really good ones were caught -
biggest one was 4 lbs. 1 oz. We caught 'em off points, other
structure, on the banks, and in the trees - pretty much
everywhere. Water temperature was
between 52º and 55º. Conservation officer stopped by and
shared a little more info - someone caught a really nice
smallmouth on Saturday, the catfish are biting about normal, and
the crappie are extremely slow right now. |

April 23rd, 2008 - Chris Ulane, Omaha, NE - Bass Pro Shops
Fished a private pond in Iowa between Crescent and Honey Creek
today. Between myself and another angler in the boat, we caught
22 bass in 5 hours. The pond is deep and narrow with a lot of
timber, and the bass were close to the bank and eagerly took
red/white spinnerbaits with double willow (silver) blades. Also
caught a few on a shad colored spinner. Water temp was mid 50's,
with a good breeze, and lots of clouds. Most fish were 14-18
inches, but did get 2 over 21 and close to 5 lbs. Fished this
same pond Tuesday April 29, much slower bite. Windy and sunny
with same water temps. Did get a few bites on 3/8 ounce
black/blue football jig with paca sr. chunk in summer craw
color. No takers on spinnerbait or Sexy Shad #1 crank. Boated
only 1 fish in 2 hours - a 4-8 largemouth on the jig. |

March
30th, 2008 - Doyle Helmink, Lincoln, NE - Lincoln Bass Club Fished LaCygne for two
days. Weather was not too bad, temperature about
mid to upper 40's, but about 15 mph wind from the
SE. Fishing was slow but did at least catch a lot
of small fish. Club caught a couple of fish close
to 5 lbs. Only caught 19 fish with 7 people
fishing for two days. Water temperature at outlet
was just over 71º and toward dam was about 58º.
Fish came from both the cold and warmer water.
Caught on jigs, crankbaits, spinner baits,
plastics and even a few on spooks. |

April
19th, 2008 - Chris Ulane, Omaha, NE - Bass Pro Shops
A friend and I fished Manawa for crappie Wednesday afternoon.
Outstanding bite on crappie to 12" on tube jigs fished near
docks and lifts in canals. Caught nearly 60 fish in 3½ hours.
Fished tubes about 12-16" below a small weighted float. The fish
preferred yellow or chartreuse tubes, especially with black, red
or white heads. Water temperature in canals was 53-55º.
Customers shopping at Bass Pro Shops have reported some activity
for bass, especially on typical spring baits such as jig and
pigs, jerkbaits and some success on Rat-L-Traps. Farm ponds seem
to be producing better than lakes and reservoirs - I have had
reports of bass to 6 lbs. from farm ponds near Crescent, Iowa.
Bigger fish coming on black and blue jigs fished very slow on
points. |
March
19th, 2008 - Chris Ulane, Omaha, NE - Bass Pro Shops Water temperature on the
main lake was 39.7º to 40.9º, water was
significantly warmer in the west canal - 43.5º
to 46.6º. Good bite on small wipers to 12"
on crappie tubes in the west canal near docks.
Customers coming in to Bass Pro Shops reporting
good bite on farm ponds and Manawa for crappie to
12" and bigger near docks and vertical
structure using minnows, red/white roadrunners
and small tube jigs. Some bigger wipers coming
from main lake - especially on the
southeast side by the condos. No reports of
largemouth activity in the area just yet. |

April 6th, 2008 - Derek Baze, Kansas City, KS -
Nemaha Valley Bassmasters
Water temperature was mostly between 48º and 50º.
Only one keeper was caught during our club tournament (plus a
small crappie and a hybrid). One of our members talked to the
local game warden who had the opinion that the bite should start
to pick up in about two weeks. Not sure if that's inside
information or not. |
    March
29th, 2008 - Derek
Baze, Kansas City, KS - Nemaha Valley Bassmasters Water temperature was
between 45.2º and 47.5º and in a very
few spots up to about 49.0º. Very few people on
the lake for what seemed like a pretty good
reason. The bass were very, very inactive with
only a very occasional bite, but it's
still early. The water was slightly muddy
throughout the lake. The tree damage from the
winter ice storms was visible around the banks
and it looks like it may have produced a lot more
cover for this year's bass (laydowns are
everywhere on the south side side of lake). |

May 6th, 2008 -
Jason, Warsaw, MO
Crappie are getting ready for spawn so most
of the fish we caught were in 12 foot of water or less. The lake
is 8 or 9 feet high, so the flooded grass is good with
roadrunners in the mouths of the pockets near the channels. Also
working well are minnows 10 feet down near the bottom, off
secondary points. We had a good amount of 12"+ crappie - good
luck! |
